Adele LaHaye
December 13, 1923 – January 6, 2021
The family of Adele LaHaye announce that she passed away peacefully at Mont St. Joseph Care Home in Prince Albert, at the age of 97. Mom was born at the family farm home in White Star, to her parents Alex and Alice (Chester) Logodin. In 1924 mom, her older sister, and her parents moved to the family farm in Red Wing. She was the second oldest of eight children. She attended Red Wing School, walking two miles to and from school every day until Grade Five, after which she stayed home to help her parents raise her younger siblings. In 1946 she married Frank LaHaye at the White Star Church. Together they took over the family farm in White Star, where dad had grown up. Dad’s parents continued to live at the family farm until 1950, when they moved to Prince Albert. Mom and dad had six children and together they worked hard with every-day chores of farming, milking cows, tending a huge garden, and raising their family. Power came to the farm in 1957 and they never had running water until 1967. What a change, no more hauling pails of water for everyday use. This included hauling water for the wringer washer on which dad had installed a gasoline engine which ran for hours in the kitchen. Dad had installed a pipe from the motor exhaust out the window. Mom perfected the art of baking bread in the wood stove without the ability to control the heat like today’s modern stoves. Mom’s wonderful cooking, especially her baking, was second to none. The kids at White Star School couldn’t wait to have some of her many delicious creations. The grandchildren and extended family always looked forward to receiving her baking gifts tenderly packed with love in those big white Taco Time sour cream containers. After dad retired from barbering mom and dad spent nine summers working at Bakers Bungalow Cabins in Waskesiu. Mom’s main job was running the laundry for in excess of one hundred cabins. In 1980 mom and dad left the farm and moved into their house in Prince Albert. After dad’s passing mom continued to work in Waskesiu another four years. Several years later mom sold the house and moved into an apartment in Marquis Towers, then the Columbian Center and then Carment Court. When her health began to deteriorate, she moved into several care homes, the most recent four years at Mont St. Joseph Care home. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Alice (Chester) Logodin; her parents-in-law, Herman and Bernadette (de Chateauneuf) LaHaye; her loving husband, Frank LaHaye in 1983; her infant daughter, Madeline in 1948; her son, Raymond in 1979, and his infant daughter Cara in 1975; her son, Michael in 2007; her grandson, David LaHaye in 2005; her siblings, Juliette, Peter, Marcel, John (Bertha), Paul; her in-laws, Annette & Joe Paskiwich, Gabe & Mayo Poudrier, Peter LaHaye, Rosette Gagnon, Antoine & Teddy LaHaye, Jules & Henriette LaHaye, Claude & Isabel LaHaye, Oscar & Nellie LaHaye, Al Holz, John Chorney.
