Adaline Ruby Whitrow (Mom) was born at Choiceland, Sask. on April 11, 1934 to George & Gilma Webster. Mom passed away peacefully Nov. 6, 2014 at her home with many family caregivers at her side. Mom was raised on the homestead southeast of Choiceland and attended the Choiceland Rural School.
Adaline married Ernest Whitrow in 1949 and started their family in Choiceland. In 1956 they moved to P.A. where they built a new home that grew as their family grew. They returned back to Choiceland in 1970 to farm. Mom worked with Dad growing grain and raising livestock.
During her life Mom was a homemaker, farmer; she babysat in her home and worked at the Nipawin Hydro Project. She worked hard all her life; kept her home meticulous as proven by several worn out vacuums. She put many miles on her garden tractor keeping her yard looking like a park. An extra large garden was always planted and harvested just in case someone needed something.
Mom loved all flowers and plants and with her green thumbs she could coax anything alive to grow. From her window, she loved watching for her deer, fox, squirrel and birds; she was passionate about her hummingbirds and enjoyed their endless entertainment. However, she did set up a trap line and was in full combat against moles. She assigned the skunk and magpie elimination duties to her son Barry.
Mom’s hobbies were few due to the busyness of her life. However she did enjoy quilting, crocheting, knitting, ceramics, baking goodies and bread. Mom and Dad loved to dance and they seemed to effortlessly glide across the floor together. She loved to play cards and complete puzzles. Mom’s greatest joy was her family. Each visitor was special to her; and when they left she would stand at her window sill to watch each departure. You could look back and always see her there, as far down the road you went. She also loved her home and it was her source of comfort, pride and a lasting link to Dad who passed away in 1994.
Mom was an active member of the Choiceland United Church and served on it’s local Board and the U.C.W. for as long as her health permitted. She loved Jesus, her Friend and Healer.
Mom and Dad have 8 children; George (Marilyn), Lorrie, Kathy (Morris Kosowan), Chris (John Pelech), Rod (Shirley), Barry (Gladys), Brent, Cindy; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by our dad, Ernest, their parents, her sisters Violet Harker, Evelyn Conron and Edna Harker; her daughter-in-law Vonnie, one granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by her brothers Lloyd and Arvey Webster.
Mom’s cancer was pain free which she always gave credit to her great faith in God. Mom will be with us always.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Choiceland Elks Memorial Hall with Reverend Krystal Sheremeta officiating. Adaline will be laid to rest in Blue Fox Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to the Choiceland United Church. To give online condolences please visit www.coventryfuneralservices.ca.
