Free Training/Certification for Literacy

These free training/certification opportunities are made possible through a community based literacy initiative funded by the SaskSmart Innovations Fund, Ministry of Education. 
 
The project is hosted by Sask Rivers School Division and guided by a local advisory committee.
 
The Project is called “Preparing for the Future” and will offer training and community participation in two areas:
1. Family Literacy
2. Workplace Literacy

We are taking registrations now.

Prince Albert Community Literacy Project (PACLP)            

“Preparing for the Future”

Would you like to upgrade your skills so that you can enter the workforce, become a volunteer or just feel more confident in your abilities?  “Preparing for the Future” is a  community based project that is offering training opportunities in several areas.  The training is free of charge and will give you some great skills that you can use in your everyday life and/or certification that you can add to your resume.  We are now taking registrations for the following training:

 

 

1.      Computer Skills Training  – Basic skills, social media, word programs, more advanced, the training will cover your individual needs.  Instructor:  Beige Biggins.                                          

  Three training sessions – 4 classes in each session                                                        

                Session 1:             March  2, 9, 16,  23 (Wednesday’s)

Session 2:             March 29, April 5,  12,  19 (Tuesday’s)

Session 3:             May 3,  10,  17,  24  (Tuesday’s)

Location:              Riverside Community School – 511 – 5th Ave E, PA

(use 6th street entrance past shed to community room)

Time:                     All sessions 6:30 – 8:00 pm  Limit of 12 spaces per session

 

2.        WHMIS –   Workplace Hazardous Material Information System – Instructor: Jan Cej

One training Session

Session:                  March 15, 2011

Location:                70 – 17th St W, PA (East Entrance)

Time:                       9:00 am – 12:00 noon  Limit of 12 spaces

 

3.       Standard First AID/CPR        Certified Instructor, Jan Cej

One training session (session is 2 days)

Session:                  March 23-24th, 2011

Location:                70 – 17th St W, PA (East Entrance)  Limit of 12 spaces

Time:                       8:30 – 12:00 noon – 12:30 – 4:30 (both days)

4.       Food Safe – Level 1   If you are handling food in your work or volunteer position, this training is important and is required in some situations.  Instruction from Public Health Inspection.

Two Training Sessions (6 seats in each have been sponsored by the PACLP Project)

Session 1:                April 5, 2011 –  8:30 am – 4:00 pm  Limit of 6 sponsored spaces

Session 2:                May 10, 2011 – 8:30 am – 4:00 pm Limit of 6 sponsored spaces

Location:                 Conference Room A & B – 1521 – 6th Ave W, PA

 

Free childcare and transportation are provided if required.

5.      GED Support Classes  Do you need some help in getting ready to write your GED?  Free classes are available at Wesmor Community High School to help you prepare to write your GED tests.  Instructor: Colette Daelick

Classes:                    Every Tuesday and Thursday evening  6:00 – 7:30 pm

                                  Classes end March 10th, 2011.

Location:                 Wesmor Community High School – 1819 – 14th Ave West, PA
