Two people are in custody and two police officers are injured following a low-speed chase north of Prince Albert Wednesday afternoon.

An RCMP member conducted a traffic stop in the community of Montreal Lake at approximately 12:30 p.m. Aug. 1 and was allegedly assaulted by the driver of the stopped vehicle. A woman who was sitting in the passenger seat was being arrested when the assault occurred, RCMP said, and the officer suffered minor injuries. The man driving the vehicle then attempted to flee the scene, RCMP said.

A low-speed pursuit was authorized along Highway 969 and officers gave chase with assistance from the Prince Albert, Waskesiu, and La Ronge RCMP detachments. Another RCMP member suffered minor injuries after being dragged briefly alongside the suspect vehicle when the driver allegedly swerved to avoid a spike belt, police said.

After attempting to ram an RCMP vehicle, police said the driver was forced off the road and the vehicle was immobilized. The driver exited the vehicle and was arrested soon after, police said, suffering dog bite injuries in the process.

Two suspects are now in police custody, though no charges have yet been laid.
