Jury awards $3.7M to Sask. born hockey coach
Former women’s hockey coach Shannon Miller was awarded nearly US$3.75 million after suing the University of Minnesota Duluth for discrimination and retaliation.
The federal jury Thursday awarded the Melfort native more than $744,000 for lost wages and benefits and $3 million for emotional distress.
Judge Patrick Schiltz will decide future wage and benefit damages.
The jury found during the eight-day trial that UMD discriminated against Miller on the basis of sex and retaliated against her for making Title IX complaints regarding the disparity between the men’s and women’s hockey programs.
