A 19-year-old man is accused of setting a fire that killed a young girl in northern Saskatchewan.

Darryl Craig Sewap has been charged with arson and criminal negligence causing death in connection to a house fire in Pelican Narrows Sept. 24.

One child, 10-year-old Denasia Highway, was killed as a result of that fire.

Her school principal described her as a likable girl who always had a hug waiting for you.

Darryl Sewap appeared in court Friday in Prince Albert. He was remanded back into custody, and is set to appear in court again Tuesday in Pelican Narrows.
