Never too old

Gladys’ leap of faith

A Prince Albert based woman is proving that you’re never too old for adventure, as the 74-year-old went skydiving outside of Saskatoon in honour of her 74th birthday.

“The Lord has been telling me to do this for three years off and on. And before I went … one night about two weeks before I went, he just put it in my heart and told me to get up, phone, and make an appointment,” said Gladys Handberg.

“The bible says … do not be afraid, so I’m not afraid of anything.”

Handberg told paNOW that her family supported her decision to jump from the airplane, although they were slightly weary of the decision.

She added that she would be open to the idea of skydiving again but left the decision in her hands of God.

When asked if she had to take any special precautions when she jumped, Handberg noted that she was advised to remove her teeth as several skydivers have had the unfortunate incident of having their dentures carried away by the wind.

“Because it was so bright and hot that day they gave me proper sunglasses that they had so I wore those,” Handberg added.
