ANAVETS – Keeping Busy in the Community

In following the mandate of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans of Canada, Unit # 222 of Prince Albert have and continue:

  • To support Veterans, To unite fraternally,
  • To increase the public influence of veterans,
  • To stimulate the spirit of patriotism in Canada,
  • To assist the British Commonwealth of Nations,
  • To acquire, maintain and operate clubs, homes and meeting places for the benefit of veterans,
  • To assist any of Her Majesty's naval, military naval air forces on active service.

We are and continue to take an active role in our City and Surrounding Community. I.e. Remembrance Day, Decoration Day, Canada Day & Winter Festival

Special &Annual Events include:

  • November 11th Remembrance Day Service
  • June – Decoration Day Service
  • February – Winter Festival – Harmonica & Accordion Playing
  •                                                – Old Time Jigging Contest
  • Veterans Christmas Dinner

Club Activities:

  • Friday & Saturday evening dances
  • Darts, Pool, Shuffle Board
  • Golf

Elections are held once a year in January to fill term and vacant positions. 

Executive meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month and General meetings are held respectively on the second Tuesdays of; January, April (Club Financial Statement), June, September, November (Executive Nominations), December (elections).

Meetings are held at our Auditorium in the basement of the clubroom.

We currently have a local membership: 507

Support.

The ANAVETS are very please to support in partnership with the Department of National Defense, Air Cadet League of Canada and the local parent group committee, the youth of 38 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets.  This organization aids Cadets ages 12 to 18 years of age in developing knowledge of Canadian history and democracy.  The Cadet program focuses on social development, decision – making and leadership.  The Cadet program also teaches an appreciation of the Canadian Air Force.

Annual Financial Donations

This year Donations In excess of $8000.00 annually have been made to:

-38 Squadron Air Cadets

-SIAST ANAVETS Learning Proficiency Awards

-Special Olympics

-Royal Canadian Legion – Wreath & Poppy Fund

-Salvation Army

-Children’s Haven

-Northern Lights Casino Powwow

-Prince Albert Exhibition Western Light Horse Show

-Any special needs that arise and are identified.

-$100,000.00 to the Rawlinson Center

-$100,000.00 to Mont St.Joseph Care Home

 

Nursing Home Visiting & Hospital

Members from the Unit visit the following care Homes on a monthly basis.

Seniors Club Visits

Seniors from the following Care Homes visit the Club Room on a monthly basis and take part in, pool, shuffle board and card games.  Along with games our visitors indulge in snacks and refreshments provided by the Unit.
