Nov 5, 2010 | 4:08 PM

In May of 1999 the designation of community school status precipitated a name change to W.F.A. Turgeon Catholic Community School. Today our school population continues to increase with an expected enrollment of 270 in 1999-2000.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL PROGRAMMING

Funding:
As a community school we receive extra funding for staffing a Community School Coordinator, Community School Associates, Nutrition Worker, Pre-Kindergarten Program, Outreach Worker; local curriculum development, Community Education and Nutrition.

Community Involvement:
We wish to get the community involved by: Representative Parent Council, Community involvement in the regular school and classroom programs, Family activities, and special events, Community -based adult education, Additional programs for children outside of regular school hours, and Community use of facilities.

Pre-Kindergarten Program:
First priority for this program will be given to children born in 1995 who reside in our school area, who will likely be attending our kindergarten program, and who's potential progress is “at risk'' (children are defined “at risk'' when their ability to realize their potential is compromised by physical, social, developmental, emotional and monetary factors).

Nutrition:
Our nutrition worker is hired on a half-time basis. She prepares snacks every day for all children in the school.
