Funeral plans underway for former Prince Albert mayor

Nov 8, 2010 | 9:11 AM

Family members say plans for former Prince Albert Mayor David Steuart's funeral have yet to be finalized.

They say it will likely take place Wednesday, in Kelowna.

Flags at the Saskatchewan legislature and at Prince Albert city hall are flying at half-staff.

Steuart died of natural causes Friday night in Kelowna. He was 94.

Besides his two terms as Mayor in the 1950s, Steuart was also the provincial liberal leader in 1971.

Many people remember most his sense of humour.

“He introduced me at a political coffee party as Lyle Stewart, one of his sheep stealing relatives from Scotland, he was just that kind of guy, and everyone would laugh,” said MLA Lyle Stewart, who was in his early 20s when he first met “Davey.”

Steuart leaves behind two children and three grandchildren.
