Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada Teams Up with Local Cineplex to Donate Video Game System tothe Victoria Regional Hospital’s Pediatric Unit

It was all fun and games at the Victoria Regional Hospital’s Pediatric Unit on Friday, November 5th.

  The Prince Albert Cineplex Theatre teamed up with the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada to present a custom designed Video Game Unit.  

The units have been custom designed and built specifically for hospital use.  The Video Game Unit came pre-loaded with all the latest and most popular video games and was ready to “plug and play”. The $5,000 Video Game Unit includes Wii games and a host of other entertainment and educational activities. 

Erika Streich, Account Manager with the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada said the units are part of an ongoing partnership with Cineplex to donate and update existing units.

She congratulated the local Cineplex theatre, its employees and theatre patrons who all helped to donate funds to purchased the unit.

Streich indicated that across Canada the Video Game Units will be used about 300,000 time a year by children in  various hospitals. “It is a terrific way to help sick children cope with pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities”, said Streich.

Jane Antoine, Nurse Unit Manager of the Pediatric Unit at the Victoria Regional Hospital indicated, “The Video Game Units are in great demand by young patients. At times we may even have to time share the units between several patients.” Antoine stated each year over 1,300 young patients are admitted to the Pediatric Unit, they come from the city as well as across central and northern Saskatchewan.
