Money raised for good cause could’ve been more
Remembrance Day is over but the impact of the day is still being felt.
Gerri Laird with the Royal Canadian Legion said some of the money made from poppy and wreath sales stay with the legion, but the rest goes to those who need it.
“To hospitals, or schools, or anyone who needs something important. And, of course, veterans and veteran’s wives, anyone in distress, we can help out there,” said Laird.
While the Legion was pleased with the money they made, Laird said they could've raised a lot more.
The poppy sold out quickly due to increased demand and the poppy-making factory breaking down, Laird said.
“We were out of poppies — we didn’t have enough poppies, of course. So that sort of cut us back a bit. Not everybody got one, I don’t think. But we did our best to get them in the schools for the school children, because that’s the most important part,” said Laird.
She believes if they had more in stock, they could've sold a lot more poppies.
Laird doesn’t have the figures on how much money they raised this year.
