People brave cold to take in annual parade

The cold and snow didn’t stop the annual Parade of Lights in Prince Albert on Thursday night.

“It’s Saskatchewan, it’s cold and everyone is going to dress warm and bring hot chocolate,” said Jayne Remenda, executive director of the Prince Albert Downtown Improvement District Association.

This was the first year the association was organizing the annual event. In previous years it was Gateway Mall that organized the evening.

The parade began on 14th Street East, behind the Marlboro and headed down Central Avenue to River Street.

While some people looked a little frustrated by the weather, the snow wasn’t a burden to everyone.

The Fresh Air Experience float towed a warmly-dressed snowboarder behind them, as they drove the route.

There were more than 12 floats including the ones from the Downtown Improvement District, Northern Lights Casino and various media organizations.

“The Salvation Army always puts in a really cool float,” Remenda said.

The parade wouldn’t be complete without Santa Claus, who took his traditional spot at the end of the procession.

“It’s a beautiful night, it’s all good. Gotta come to see Santa. This is Santa weather,” said Debbie Honch, while watching the parade.

The kids that braved the weather were rewarded with candy, but even those that came left quickly once the parade had passed by.
