Brain Injury Information from Sask. North Acquired Brain Injury Services

Jan 15, 2011 | 7:46 AM

Following a brain injury, many survivors, families & caregivers look for additional information to help them better understand the effects of brain injury.

Access to the internet has allowed individuals to have a huge variety of information at their fingertips.  The sheer volume of web-sites and information can be overwhelming.  The following are some sites that our clients/families have found helpful.

The ABI Partnership Project — www.abipartnership.sk.ca
This is the web site for the ABI Partnership Project in Saskatchewan.  There are separate sections for survivors & families, education & prevention, and professionals.  The website includes information about the 36 programs, including three provincial outreach teams that provide ongoing service and support to Saskatchewan residents.  Links to credible websites can be found under “Resources & Publications”, “Related Links”.

Behaviour Management after Brain Injury
www.health.qld.gov.au/abios/behaviour/asp/behav_manage.asp

This is a portion of the web site of the Acquired Brain Injury Outreach Service in Australia.  They have particularly good information on behavior management after brain injury.  The information is targeted to three audience groups:  resources for people with ABI, resources for families and support workers, and
resources for professionals.   There is also good information in other sections of the website but be aware
that many of the services they are describing are based in Australia.

Stroke Engine – www.strokengine.ca/index.php
This site has information for clients and families on rehabilitation topics and interventions.

Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association – www.sbia.ca
This site has information about support groups in Saskatchewan and a calendar of upcoming events.
