Trapped mine worker rescued

Jan 19, 2011 | 5:19 AM

Rocky Arsenault, from Nipawin, was trapped between a rock and a machine, in a mine mill for nearly eight hours, Tuesday.

Emergency crews from La Ronge were in a race against time, getting to the man.

Just before midnight RCMP Cpl. Ray Zillich had good news.

β€œOne male subject was successfully extricated from the mine,” he said.

The man was the only person trapped, one else was stuck or hurt in the incident.

Once the man was freed, he was sent to hospital.

It all happened at Jolu Mine β€” a Golden Band Resources gold mine about an hour north of La Ronge β€” the man was working in the crushing room towards the end of the work day when he became stuck.

Rodney Orr, vice-president of Golden Band, said the man was not injured and that he's eager to return to work.

Today that mill is shut down as officials figure out what went wrong.
