PA Ski Club Cosmo Classic Loppet Raised $5,000 for Diabetes

Jan 19, 2011 | 10:01 AM

The “PASC-Cosmo Classic Loppet” at Little Red River Park was a great success.

Numbers of participants were less than we hoped for due to poor weather forecasts during the previous weeks.

Despite that, 72 skiers, aged 5 to 75, with ability from Novice to Expert enjoyed a great ski, followed by a delicious plate of stew at the Cosmo Lodge.

When all is said and done, over $5000.00 will have been raised for the Canadian Diabetes Assoc.

Joe Brassard of Prince Albert was the top adult fundraiser and for his effort at raising $250.00, will receive a ski package donated by Fresh air Experience.

Taryn Moe of Shellbrook was the top junior fundraiser. She collected $100.00 in pledges, and will receive a ski package donated by Gene's Sports.

Eighteen Cosmo Men's and Cosmo Ladies' Club members volunteered along with several P.A. Ski Club members and Fresh Air Experience employees to make this event safe and enjoyable for all the participants.

Generous donations from several Prince Albert businesses covered all the expenses. This meas that not only the pledges, but also the registration fees will go to Canadian Diabetes.

Although our advertising indicated that skiers raising more than $50.00 in pledges would be refunded their entry fee, the vast majority declined, and advised us to make it a further donation.

Great job all around, folks!
