Mar 9, 2011 | 9:06 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders defeated the Regina Pats on Wednesday 8-5 at the Art Hauser Centre to extend their lead to five points over their division rivals.

It was a flurry of a first period with a total of eight goals being scored. Jonathan Parker led the way and scored a hat trick before the period was out. The Raiders would score two of the three power play goals of the period to give them a 5-3 lead heading into the second.

Mike Winther scored on the power play to start the second period off and Brandon Herrod would add one 12 minutes later to give the Raiders a 7-3 lead with seven minutes left in the period. The Pats though, stuck with the Raiders and added a power play goal of their own cutting the Raider lead to three heading in the third.

The Pats would score two power play goals, 33 seconds apart at the 15 minute mark of the final frame to put the game within reach with five minutes left to play. The Pats were unable to find the equalizer and Mark McNeill added an empty net goal to give the Raiders an 8-5 victory.

Jonathan Parker and Mark McNeill each finished the night with four points while Justin Maylan and Jordan Rowley had three points apiece. Eric Williams stopped 48 of 53 shots in his 12th consecutive start and is back at .500 with a 17-17-1-1 record.

The Raiders welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Art Hauser Centre on Friday and are in Brandon to take on the Wheat Kings Saturday.
