Five Days for Homelessness raises $20,722 for Carmichael Outreach
A group of University of Regina students, slept on benches, ate only donated food, attended classes and also raised $20,722 for the homeless in the Queen City — well exceeding their goal of $10,000.
It was all part of Five Days for Homelessness — a national campaign aimed at raising awareness of the issue and making people take time to think about and recognize it.
“It was a huge success,” said organizer Allison Pilkey, adding the five students from the Paul J. Hill School of Business that participated didn't just just raise awareness and money, they learned a lot too.
“They learned a number of things, they learned a lot about Carmichael (Outreach Centre), a lot about the issue, and the importance of better appreciating what they have,” she said.
