Saskatchewan gets help from Ottawa to deal with flooding
The flooding in Saskatchewan is getting attention of Ottawa.
In a letter sent to Premier Brad Wall, the federal government has pledged to pick up half the tab for what the provincial government will spend on flood mitigation programs this year.
The total for things such as berms, culverts and retention basins is expected to reach about $50 million.
“I want to thank the federal government for its swift and positive response to this request. I spoke to the prime minister and wrote him about the flooding situation last week, and he clearly understood the challenges facing Saskatchewan people and communities as a result of this year’s flooding,” Wall said, in a press release.
