A more connected Northern Saskatchewan health region

May 8, 2011 | 11:33 AM

People in the in the Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region can expect better access to diagnostic and specialist services.

Don McMorris, Minister of Health, announced Friday the implementation of an Electronic Diagnostic Imaging Communication System in La Ronge.

The equipment means the region has joined the growing list of regions which have implemented the system.

This type of digital imaging system is expected to be province wide by the end of 2012, and will better connect health regions’ digital imaging capacity and response times.

Essentially, authorized healthcare professionals can then discuss x-rays, CT scans and MRIs between any health region in the province.

On top of the new equipment, McMorris also announced a $66,660 for the region from the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative.

Though surgical services are not offered in the Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region, the money is expected to go towards additional care for surgical patients after they have returned home from receiving surgery in another health region.
