Bill Chow named president of SJHL, retiring from PAPS

Bill Chow is about to start a new chapter in his life.

He’s been named the president of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League(SJHL), and will be retiring from the Prince Albert Police Service as a staff sargent, after nearly 30 years with the service.

“Thirty years within one organization, it’s getting time to move on, and I’ve found another career, luckily enough for me,” said Chow.

“Because of my involvement with hockey, I think it’s a great opportunity for me.”
Chow, 52, has been a scout in the WHL for the past 25 years, including the past 10 years with the Spokane Chiefs. He also used to scout for the SJHL’s Melfort Mustangs.

Chow signed a three year contract, and believes he will be a great fit as president of the SJHL.

“With my hockey background, my policing background and my business background, I just felt that it was the right fit, and obviously the management committee felt the same way,” he said.

Chow said he will sit down with all of the franchises of the SJHL to decide where they want to take the league.

“It’s going to be a collaborative vision of us all, and once we come up with that, that’s the direction we’ll be going,” said Chow.

Chow said he doesn’t have a timeline for the career change yet, since still has some work to do with the police service first. He said he does not want to leave any loose ends before his departure.
