Weekend rain not helping southeast Saskatchewan

May 23, 2011 | 8:52 AM

A wet long weekend is not what the doctor ordered in Saskatchewan's southeast.

The Estevan area was hit with 25 millimeters of rain yesterday, causing more headaches for people in the area.

Marlin Lablanche owns a farm in the area, he said things were starting to look up at his property last week. “Friday we had started going down to where we could access the road in our yard,” he said.

The rain has changed that.

Lablanche has been dealing with water on his land for more than 35 days, he said the whole situation is just numbing.

“We don't even care anymore it's such a mess, it's a write off for us. We've lost so many cattle from it, we're not going to get anymore crops seeded…It's not a very good year.”

The province said Friday that the Rafferty and Boundary dams will be able to hold this weekends rain, but Lablanche isn't so optimistic, saying he's heard that one before.
