In celebration of National Aboriginal Day, we present three National Film Board films:

Vistas: Little Thunder (Animation, 3 minutes)
In this humorous short inspired by the Mi’kmaq legend, we follow Little Thunder as he reluctantly leaves his family and sets out on a cross-country canoe trip to become a man.

Waseteg
(Animation, 6 minutes)
The story of a young Mi’kmaq girl who dreams of stories she’s heard in the village—including one about Walqwan, the mysterious boy who lives across the river.

Wapikoni—Encounter in Kitcisakik
(Documentary, 52 minutes, original French version with English subtitles)
Viewers accompany the Wapikoni Mobile team—the celebrated studio on wheels that travels through Aboriginal communities in Quebec providing production training to youth—and young Algonquin singers and filmmakers into a world steeped in history. They discover a little-known reality where the wild beauty of the landscape contrasts with human misery and decay, where self-destruction commingles with an irrepressible will to live.
