Two teenagers arrested in park assault

Jul 12, 2011 | 12:30 PM

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with an assault in Kinsmen Park on the weekend.

Police said that on July 9 at around 8 p.m. a 52-year-old woman on an evening stroll was approached by two teenagers who tried to rob her.

Police said the woman was assaulted by the two. She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released.

Police have arrested an 18-year-old female and a male under the age of 18 and have charged both with robbery with violence.

The incident has led the police to issue a statement regarding the activities of young people in the community.

Sgt. Jason Stonechild said it’s important for parents to speak with their children about safety and proper behavior, especially in the summer when there’s more free time.

“Every summer we always have a random influx of crime committed by youths who apparently have no curfew and little parental supervision,” he said.

“Please know what your kids are doing, who they’re hanging around with and where they are. Give your kids rules and moral guidelines and enforce them as parents should.”

The two teenagers will appear in court on a later date.
