Volunteers to clean up flooded Regina dog park

Jul 25, 2011 | 6:32 AM

On Thursday, July 28, members of the Regina Dog Park Stewardship Group, along with city employees and volunteers, will try and clean up the Cathy Lauristen Memorial Off-leash Dog Park, after flooding forced its closure this spring.

Lynda Schofield, with the stewardship group, is hoping people come out and lend a hand.

“Before it can really be opened it needs to be cleaned up. This is an opportunity for the dog owners who use the park, to help get it open sooner,” said Schofield.

She says spring storms turned the park into quite a mess.

“The park has been flooded basically two times now. The water all came through and totally covered it. When the water went down, we had some big storms and the water came up again. So we don’t know what all that water has left,” said Schofield.

The City of Regina will be providing garbage bags and gloves. The plan is to work between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Anyone who wants to help is welcome to show up, and is reminded to dress appropriately and leave the kids and dogs at home for safety reasons.

Since the park closed down the city has been using designated outdoor hockey rinks as temporary dog parks.
