Battlefords’ MLA says more police officers needed

The MLA for the Battlefords says the city's ranking atop the crime severity index should show the government more police officers are needed.

New Democrat Len Taylor says the minister responsible for policing has said the crime severity index would be a factor in choosing where to send 30 new police officers.

“It’s time for a response, it’s time for funding, it’s time for more police officers for North Battleford,” Taylor said.

“We are one of the busiest, if not the busiest, police detachments in the province and perhaps in all of Canada,” he said.

The minister's office will only say an announcement is expected next week on where the new officers will be allocated.
