Regina couple wins $1M jackpot

On their 49th wedding anniversary, one woman says it's the best gift her husband has ever given her.

Thursday, Ruth and Larry Hoffart from Regina were presented a cheque for $1,000,000 after Larry bought a winning ticket in the Aug. 3 Western 649 jackpot.

Larry says the girl at the store was over the moon for them.

“She said, ‘Do you know how much you won?’ And I said, ‘No, $100,000?’ And she said, ‘No, a million!’ ” said Larry.

“She was more excited than I was I think. She was just bouncing.”

The couple, who are in their mid-seventies, have no plans for the money. But if history is any indication they'll likely take another trip to Hawaii.

“I am not a travel agent but I have been to Hawaii 40 times,” said Ruth.

The winning ticket was bought at Brandee's Corner Store on 13th Avenue in Regina.
