Update: Carol King’s family ups reward to $25K

Aug 11, 2011 | 4:26 PM

Brenda King describes this as the worst week of her life.

The sister of missing Carol King is feeling helpless about her disappearance. Brenda says in an attempt to get tips from the public, her family has upped their reward from $10,000 to $25,000.

Carol, 40, has been missing since Saturday.

King, who recently came from Halifax to be close to the search efforts, says she's been going back and forth between anxiety and relief.

“I’m grasping at straws here, right now. I’m going to do whatever it takes to get her back,” said Brenda.

“My dad’s like, ‘Do anything. Try $25,000. See if that helps anything to get any clues.’”

She was horrified to hear that her sister's car had been found submerged in a slough north of Herschel. She was relieved, however, that her sister wasn't in that car– meaning she could be somewhere else.

Friend says Carol was going to file harassment complaint

The disappearance of Carol King has made an impact on the small community where she lives.

It was Saturday that Shann Minish, a friend of King, last heard her voice. King, 40, has been missing ever since.

“She was heading to Rosetown to give a statement to the police. She was being harassed and things had been going on,” said Minish.

“She was going to give an official statement to the police.”

Personal problems aside, Minish said King was really happy. She loved her job but wasn’t able to make a connection with many people because of work.

Minish is in shock to hear about the RCMP finding King’s car in a slough northeast of Herschel on Wednesday.

“It’s pretty unbelievable, really, to think that could really happen.”

The RCMP’s “F” Division Underwater Recovery Team, along with Forensic Identification officers, removed the car from the water at about 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday. King’s Chrysler PT Cruiser has been transported to Saskatoon for further examination.

Police still search for King

Sgt. Paul Dawson says an underwater recovery team will continue dives at the scene on Thursday.

“It’s a small body of water but it’s fairly murky and difficult to search,” he said.

Carol's sister, Brenda King, says she is baffled by the disappearance. She notified the RCMP after being unable to get a hold of her sister by phone.

Carol King is originally from Newfoundland but moved to a farmhouse near Rosetown three years ago for work. Her sister just recently came from Halifax to be close to the search efforts.

Anyone with information about King’s whereabouts is asked to contact Rosetown RCMP at 882-5700 or Crime Stopeers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
