Sturgeon Lake chief learns of suspension, finds office locked

Sturgeon Lake First Nation Chief Henry Felix has been told by the band’s election tribunal that he’s suspended without pay pending the outcome of a court case.

Felix was charged in connection with a historical sexual assault dating back to the 1970s. The accusation came to light last fall.

According to the band’s election act, in the event an elected official is charged with an offence that may affect their ability to give effective leadership, he or she shall be suspended without pay.

When Felix showed up to work last week, he found the doors to the band council office locked. The RCMP was called in to help keep the peace.
