Nearly two years after a young boy was killed on Montreal Lake Cree Nation, the man responsible has been sentenced.

Martin Abel Victor Bird, 30, received a six-year sentence for the death of a three-year-old boy.

The boy was in cardiac arrest when he arrived at the William Charles Health Centre on April 7, 2013, and died an hour later.

During court proceedings Thursday morning at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Prince Albert, Bird entered a guilty plea to a manslaughter charge.
