SaskAlert ready to broadcast emergencies

Apr 16, 2015 | 4:23 PM

Saskatchewan’s new emergency public alerting program has been tested and is now up and running.

SaskAlert can provide critical information about emergency situations as they develop so residents in the area can provide themselves the proper protection. People will receive updates directly from their local television and radio stations as well as online.

Alerts may be created for severe weather events like tornadoes, plow winds, flooding, and blizzards. It may also be issued for wildfires, spills of hazardous material, train derailments, boil water and shelter-in-place advisories, significant highway closures, and community evacuations

Once an alert is issued it will be aired through your local media. Information about alerts can be found at SaskAlert.ca, The Weather Network website and through a smart phone app.

The SaskAlert program was tested in communities across southwestern Saskatchewan in February.
