Dancers performed for an enthusiastic audience that often clapped along to the music.

Younger dancers often got laughs and adoration from the large audience as they displayed the Ukrainian dance moves they’d learned.

Some dancers played out scenes for the audience. One example is a small group of boys and girls who used prop fishing rods and a fish in their dance.

The event’s adjudicator focused on technique and coordination of the different dances on stage, but he also noted the cultural significance of the dances.

At the end of one the of the weekend’s many dance sessions, dancers were asked questions about which regions they represented before receiving medals.

The students were able to view DVDs of their dances to see what aspects could be improved upon.

The festival wouldn’t be complete without traditional Ukrainian food.

Volunteers dished out perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, and sausage for attendees.

Clothing and art – including nesting dolls – were also for sale at the event.

Twenty-two different clubs came from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta to compete.
