North Battleford mayor undergoes surgery for cancer

North Battleford Mayor Ian Hamilton is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery for cancer this week.

Word of the mayor’s illness broke Tuesday when he was absent at the City’s State of the Town and City Address. He was also missing from Monday night’s city council meeting.

City councillor Cathy Richardson said Hamilton was recently diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing surgery on Tuesday morning.

Richardson said the cancer was caught early and Hamilton was optimistic going into the surgery.
