Law enforcement unite in P.A. after Edmonton officer death

Jun 11, 2015 | 7:08 AM

A community event for Prince Albert’s regional law enforcement workers came only a day after news broke of an Edmonton officer’s death.

Cst. Daniel Woodall, 35 was an eight-year veteran of Edmonton’s Police Service, and was shot while serving an arrest warrant.

The mayor of Edmonton’s emotions boiled over as he cried at a news conference on Monday. Woodall was the father of two boys, one six years old, the other four.

“I feel this most deeply as a father of young children, and I’m incredibly sad for them and for Mrs. Woodall,” Mayor Brian Bowman said.

Tuesday was a show of togetherness in Prince Albert’s Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Stephen Hug, a chairman for the run, used to be a conservation officer.

“We don’t ever want to see, especially men in action in the police force, getting killed like that. Everyone’s officers here to protect people and that’s what we want to see. And it was very tragic for sure,” Hug said.

He said events like the torch run remind people that members of law enforcement are more than their job – they’re a part of the community. The participants and schools they visited raise money for local Special Olympians to train and attend events.

Woodall was a 35-year-old officer recruited from Great Britain.

His wife Claire took to social media to thank people for their outpouring of support after his death.
