Home construction slow in 2015

Aug 10, 2015 | 6:33 AM

The city’s latest monthly building permits report reveals fewer people are building or making changes to their homes in Prince Albert this year, but there are more businesses setting up shop.

From January to July, there were 61 residential single family permits issued. This compares to 90 for the same time last year.

The permits issued for alterations and additions (garages) was nearly cut in half from 12 to seven.

Multi-family home permits saw a slight increase year over year, from five to seven.

On the other end of the spectrum, the city’s economy is doing well.

There were 31 commercial permits issued during the first half of the year.  This compares to 20 at the same time last year.

A few of these permits would include the new Montana’s opening Monday at South Hill Mall, as well as the new Sport Chek and Staples locations at Cornerstone.

Industrial permits also saw a slight jump, from seven to 11.
