OK Hjertaas Golfers Raise $86,000 for Victoria Hospital

Aug 25, 2015 | 10:52 AM

The Victoria Hospital Foundation’s 18th annual OK Hjertaas Golf Tournament took place last Friday, August 21 at Cooke Municipal Golf Course. Over 150 golfers participated in this annual fundraiser in honour of the late Dr. Orville Hjertaas, a pioneer in the development of Saskatchewan’s medicare system.

The tournament aimed to raise $50,000 to purchase a new instrument sterilizer for the Sterile Processing Department. Currently, the hospital has three of these units, however two of them are 8 years old and starting to experience breakdowns. These machines run over 16 hours per day, every day of the year. Not only do they clean equipment for the Victoria Regional Hospital, but also the entire Health Region.  Every breakdown of these units causes delay to surgeries and procedures in our region and increase wait times.

This year’s tournament raised a total of $86,000.  The winners of the golf tournament were:

1st place:  Jamie Engen’s team with a score of 15 under par

2nd place:  Brent Wood’s team with a score of  13 under par

3rd place:  Anderson Motor’s team with a score of  11 under par

WestJet Trip for 2 winner:  Shirley Laroque

“Our 18th Ok Hjertaas golf tournament was a big success this year and our golfers enjoyed nice weather, unique prizing, a new format and a delicious banquet dinner.  The Victoria Hospital Foundation sincerely thanks all of our loyal golfers, sponsors and donors for your support.  It’s only because of each of you, that we are able to continue to support our hospital by bringing better health care to our community.”

The tournament has raised over 1 million dollars to date for vital medical equipment since its launch 18 years ago.
