Trailer park fire north of Prince Albert

Sep 4, 2015 | 6:14 AM

George Carnrike was barely asleep by the time a neighbour knocked on his trailer door to tell him to get out.

With the help of his neighbour, Carnrike pealed the melting door open to see the trailer beside him up in flames.

“I jumped out, saw the fire and that was it. It’s quite anti-climactic, really. It was on its way. It was really, really burning up,” Carnrike said.

The fire began around 11 p.m. at Sunset Bay Resort trailer court at Emma Lake on Thursday night.

When Lakeland and District Fire Department arrived on the scene, one camper was already fully engulfed in flames.

The fire quickly spread to a cabin and another adjacent camper trailer. The two trailers burned down, and the cabin had severe damages.

Carnrike’s trailer wall was melted and cracked in result of radiant heat damage.

“It’s probably a write-off. I talked to some people where we purchased it from and the cost of repair and labour makes it a write-off,” Carnrike said.

Owner of Sunset Bay Resort, Lawrence Minshull said a large group of people observed the flames from a safe place.

He also opened up the resort motel for those affected by the fire.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Another trailer also had some radiant heat damage. The total damage of the fire is estimated at $500,000.

The incident has been deemed suspicious.
