Keep Prince Albert and Area Beautiful Fall Clean-Up

Sep 4, 2015 | 8:45 AM

The committee to Keep Prince Albert and Area Beautiful is planning a fall community cleanup for the Prince Albert area. Local community groups and individuals are encouraged to take part on Saturday, September 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help clean up illegal dumpsites in and around Prince Albert.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the group on September 19 is asked to meet at the Highway 2 North rest area, across from the fire centre. Bags and gloves will be available to those who want to help with the cleanup.

The Keep Prince Albert and Area Beautiful project continues to grow since its initial launch in April. Since the project started, more than 17,000 kilograms of waste and garbage has been cleaned up with the help of our project partners, community volunteers and local government and community organizations. More than half of the 80 dumpsites originally identified at the start of the project have been cleared of debris.

“We’re thrilled with the amount of waste that has been cleared since April and we’re hoping the community will come out once again on September 19 to help us as we target more of these illegal dumpsites,” said project spokesperson Charlene Tebbutt.

“This project and our partners continue to build momentum and promote education and awareness in our efforts to keep our city and the surrounding forest and green spaces clean. The community response to this project has been very positive and the volunteers and committee partners have really made a difference.”

The Keep Prince Albert and Area Beautiful project is a grassroots effort of interested businesses, local leaders, service groups, local governments, enforcement agencies and other organizations all working toward a common goal to raise awareness about proper waste disposal, local recycling opportunities and the environmental impacts associated with illegal dumping and littering. The group is also working on ways to increase public reporting involving incidents of illegal dumping and littering.

In rural areas, illegal dumping violations can be reported through the Ministry of Environment’s TIP line at 1-800-667-7561 or online at saskatchewan.ca/conservation. City of Prince Albert residents can report littering incidents to the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222.

Those interested in taking part in the September 19 community cleanup are encouraged to visit the group’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/KeepPrinceAlbertandAreaBeautiful, or by contacting: Charlene Tebbutt – Communications Co-Chair at 306-764-6221 or 306-941-8190.
