Bears split two against Esso Cup hosting Gold Wings
The Prince Albert A&W Bears split the two-game weekend series against the Weyburn Gold Wings, the team that will host the 2016 Esso Cup female midget AAA national championships April 17-23.
The Gold Wings won the first game Saturday 3-2, but the Bears rebounded with a 2-1 victory on Sunday—both games were at the Art Hauser Centre.
After the even-split, Bears head coach Jeff Willoughby believes his team matches up well against the Esso Cup hosts and hopes the Bears can earn their spot in Weyburn by season’s end.
“It’s a good measuring stick to start off the season, I wish we could host too one day,” said Bears head coach Jeff Willoughby. “That’s our plans, but great for Weyburn to keep it in this province.
