Group golfs for charity

Mark’s Nine Golf and Country Club played host to a special group of golfers Saturday.

The Charlie’s Angels Golf Tournament, in its sixth year, aims to raise money for the Prince Albert SPCA.

Founding member Holly Abriey-Hare said they hope to bring in over $17,000 to push total fundraising for the group over $100,000. Currently, the fund raiser has brought in over $83,000 and truck loads of items, which have gone to support the SPCA.

Along with the golf tournament, organizers expect to raise money from a silent auction. Abriey-Hare said they had 67 women show up to take part in the ladies golf tournament and 18 volunteers who agreed to be caddies.

When looking at why the tournament has been a success, Abriey-Hare credits the fact the event is fun and provides an opportunity to honor the memory of the late Charlene ‘Charlie’ Leachman, who passed away in 2013.

“We just have a certain energy, that I think is shining down on us and it’s a lot of fun,” she said.

Abriey-Hare said they were looking for a way to honor Leachman, which led to the establishment of the Charlie’s Angels and the golf event. Abriey-Hare added given how much Leachman cared about animals supporting the P.A. SPCA made the most sense.

“Her fur babies were her babies, they wanted for nothing and so it’s a really good way to honor her,” she said.
