UPDATE: Annual Jail-N-Bail raises 17K for cancer research
Prince Albert’s annual Jail–N-Bail, a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, raised a total of $17,529.30 at the Gateway Mall on Thursday.
The event is a fun way to raise funds for cancer awareness, and programs, and it is an opportunity for Prince Albert residents to arrange to have someone they know ‘arrested’ for a good cause.
Various jail birds were brought in throughout the day and a celebrity judge determined their bail, giving them the opportunity to raise pledges or bail from their co-workers, friends and family.
Charlene Bernard, manager of the Prince Albert Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, said they have had a number of jail birds brought in so far. She said the warrants for arrest are made for a variety of fun reasons including having too nice of hair or for not eating your vegetables.
