Supporting Moms to Be
Oct 24, 2015 | 9:57 AM
The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute is proud to announce its newest campaign about pregnancy and alcohol. It is one of the few FASD prevention campaigns that is aimed at men.
A father doesn’t directly cause FASD but research shows he has an influence on whether his pregnant partner drinks. A father can support his partner to say, “No thanks” to alcohol by:
- learning how alcohol affects an unborn baby
- asking how he can best support her
- planning activities that don’t involve alcohol
- making sure non-alcoholic drinks are available
- stopping his drinking for a few weeks or months, or perhaps the whole pregnancy, to learn what it is like for her
- finding help for her if it is hard for her to stop drinking
Preventing FASD is not just a woman’s responsibility. You can learn more at our new website www.howtohelp.ca or by clicking on the “This is why” poster attached.
