P.A. firefighters bag groceries for the Special Olympics

If you shop at Safeway on Saturday, you can be sure that your groceries will be well taken care of.

That’s because the Prince Albert Fire Department are taking care of bagging duties.

The PA Fire Department is involved in numerous charitable causes, and have been bagging groceries at Safeway for several years.

This event supports the Special Olympics.

For firefighter Stephane Gaudet, it’s less about the specific cause and more about the act of giving back.

“When you see people that actually need this money, towards their cause and their personal life, it makes you feel a lot better just helping out that little bit.”

The fire department and Safeway have a long history of working together on charitable causes.

“It’s been a normal thing for Safeway to team up with different organizations to come together,” said Kevin Giesbrecht, the first assistant manager at the Prince Albert Safeway. “We’re very lucky to have these guys for the Special Olympics.”

The Prince Albert Safeway is the number one Safeway for donations, and Giesbrecht believes they will be number one in Canada.

“I think it’s a very prideful thing for this city that they’ve become number one for donations,” Giebrecht said. “I think it speaks a lot of the Prince Albert community.”
