Rotary Club steps up with over $67K for Project Triple Play

The Rotary Club of Prince Albert is giving Project Triple Play a kick-start.

On Friday, they announced their donation of $67,500, making them a “Grand Slam Sponsor.”

Rotary president Steve Suchorab said they’re proud to be a major sponsor, considering their work with youth in the past on adventure programs and model UN.

“We just wanted to do a project that was going to involve youth and we thought Project Triple Play fit in really well,” explained Suchorab. “It also fits in well with the Rotary Trail going close to the ball diamonds and everything.”

“(With) the World Championship coming up, I think it’s going to be great for Prince Albert and we’re proud to do our part.”

The money for the sponsorship will come from their major fundraising events throughout the year, including their top earner, the Rotary Lobster Fest.

“That’s where the majority of the money is going to come from,” said Suchorab. “(And) like other service clubs, we work bingos and we have a fall craft show and we’ve got some other things in the works.”

Becoming the Grand Slam Sponsor also gives the Rotary Club the opportunity to name the field their money will fund. Suchorab said they’ve thought about it, but haven’t settled on anything yet.

“I like keeping it simple. ‘Rotary Field’ sounds good to me,” said Suchorab. “I think that’s sort of what’s been tossed but it’s up to the membership. We’ll see if there are any suggestions out there.”

Project Triple Play is still looking for sponsors, with the Junior Men’s World Softball Championship coming up in 2018 and renovations needed for the facilities in Prince Albert to meet game standards.
