A student from Carlton Comprehensive Public High School recently won a scholarship from the Bobby Bird Memorial association in Prince Albert.

Precious Nelson, a Grade 12 student was nominated for excellence and work well done for her grade 11 year.

Nelson is the only student at Carlton Comprehensive Public High School to win the award so far.

“I was really surprised, and shocked that they would pick me-out of others to be honest,” said Nelson.

Nelson’s mother, Beverly is part of the committee that chooses who wins the award.

“I am very, very proud of her. I’m very happy that she is continuing on with her classes and high achievements.” Bird said.

Bird has been with the Bobby Bird Memorial Scholarship committee for well over 10 years, and has presented the award to many different students for their academic achievements from specific reserves across Saskatchewan.

“Michelle Miller wrote a nomination letter on why I should be getting this award, as well you have to get transcripts from the year before, and work very hard,” said Nelson.

Nelson continues to work very hard and she hopes to receive the Bobby Bird Memorial Scholarship again in the future.
