Police on the hunt for tire slashers

Nov 9, 2015 | 4:12 PM

Prince Albert Police Service are investigating after over 25 reports of slashed tires overnight.

Tires were slashed in the West Hill, West Flat, Midtown, East Flat and East Hill neighborhoods.

All incidences are reported to have happened in a 12-hour period Monday morning.

The damage is estimated in the thousands of dollars.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police are also reminding people to lock their vehicles and report all suspicious activity.

They say the most often way criminals get into a vehicle is through an unlocked door, and that most vehicle thefts are completely preventable.

To make sure your vehicle is safe, police recommend:

  • Not leaving your car running unattended with the keys in the ignition, even in the cold early morning winters while heating your car
  • Park in will-let areas
  • Always lock your vehicle
  • Invest in an anti-theft device and use it every time you park your car
  • Don’t leave valuables in plain sight, which can make your car a target

Police ask everyone to report suspicious activity, and take note of details that will be helpful to the police, such as clothing descriptions or license plate numbers.

However, they ask that no one put their own safety at risk while getting the information.
