Brad Wall thanks Trudeau for flexibility on refugees, maintains criticism over deadlines
Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall thanked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Tuesday for “showing flexibility” on the plan to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by year’s end.
Even before the refugee resettlement targets were pushed back, Wall had asked for a suspension of the plan, citing security concerns. Wall’s comments drew protesters to the grounds of the Legislature.
Here is the premier’s statement, in full:
“First of all, I want to thank Prime Minister Trudeau for showing flexibility on this matter. Specifically, I want to thank him for his decision on the December 31 deadline. I know that he values the safety and security of all Canadians and wants to ensure a successful settlement for refugees in their new communities.
