Alleged RCMP shooter denied bail

A man who allegedly exchanged gunfire with RCMP, will spend Christmas behind bars.

Mario Whitehead was denied bail on Thursday at court in Carrot River.

Whitehead was charged after an incident on the Red Earth First Nation on Oct. 17.

RCMP had been dispatched to the reserve in response to a complaint of an assault. 

Whitehead is alleged to have been standing outside a home holding a gun, and proceeding to shoot at the arriving RCMP vehicle.

RCMP shot back and Whitehead was wounded. 

He is facing 11 charges including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to endanger a life, and assault.

Whitehead will be back in court on Jan. 28.
