Homemade neuter attempt on Moose Jaw area dog

A shocking case of animal cruelty turned up at the Moose Jaw Humane Society this week.

Shortly after their doors opened Monday, a man brought in a stray dog that came to his farm over the weekend. The shepherd-cross, whose name is “Freddie”, was found to have his groin area banded and it was infected. It appeared to be a homemade attempt at neutering him.

Karla Pratt with the Humane Society says procedures like this should be left to the professionals.

“The dog could have suffered from a severe infection, gangrene or even death,” she said.

Freddie had to have surgery this week and the good news is he seems to be recovering quite well. Now, the shelter is looking to raise about three hundred dollars to pay for it. They're also looking for the owner and say they aren't able to enforce any animal cruelty laws until they find that person.
