Annual threshing festival underway

A group is showing off machines and equipment from past eras this weekend.

Vintage Power Machines is putting on their annual threshing festival. The event, in its 38 year, showcases a wide range of machinery from vintage tractors to blacksmithing.

President Alan Andal said events like these provide an important service.

“We try and keep the old history of the country going and let in a lot of the younger people that’s never seen any of it,” he said. “Plus, the older crew that’s lived through it, kind of go back.”

Andal said he has noticed older people who grew up in previous eras tend to enjoy getting to see the old equipment in action again.

The festivities kicked off Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast.

Besides getting to see an old threshing machine go to work, those who come out will also have the chance to see restored homes from the 1900s.

Andal said last year, the tractor pull returned after a brief hiatus and turned out to be quite popular with a large number of people taking part and some even bringing older tractors with them.

“That really got the crowd through the gate, people are really interested,” he said.

Andal estimates there are less than a dozen places in the province where people can go see this much vintage equipment in one place. He said people should know the money they make from putting on the event stays close to home.

“Anything that we gain off our threshing festival keeps getting reinvested into our communities’ area,” he said.
